As some of you may know, at 33, I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. At that time, I had never heard of psoriatic arthritis, had no idea what it was, and no idea how many people suffer from this auto-immune disorder. Before being diagnosed, I was very active. I had run two marathons, completed a 140 mile M.S. bike ride, completed a Tough Mudder, and finished two sprint triathlons, in addition to playing several sports. The diagnosis hit me particularly hard because I didn’t know what to expect or what it meant for my active lifestyle. I have been very lucky. My family and friends have been a wonderful support and with the help of various medications, my doctors, and I have been able to keep the psoriatic arthritis under control and, for the most part, I have been able to resume my active lifestyle. There are stretches when the flare-ups are painful, irritating, and more than anything, defeating; and during those times the last thing you want to do is the same thing that helps, being active. Not everyone responds as positively to the medications or has access to the very expensive medications; as a result, they can become disabled, disfigured, and deeply depressed.
Please support me as I ride and raise money for everyone with psoriatic arthritis.
All money raised by Team NPF Cycle provides people with psoriatic disease the services they need to live well, while funding research for a cure.
